Biography

Mezzo-soprano Başak Ceber began her musical journey at the age of seven as a member of the Children’s Choir of the Turkish Radio and Television (TRT), later continuing her training as a soprano in the TRT Youth Classical Choir. After initially pursuing an academic path and completing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Istanbul University, she fully dedicated herself to music and began her vocal studies in opera at the Istanbul University State Conservatory.

During her studies, she gained extensive stage experience in productions such as Die Opernprobe and Dido and Aeneas. In 2012, she made her European debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival under the baton of Rolf Beck. She gave her solo debut as Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, before completing her studies performing the role of Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena.

Başak Ceber has worked with internationally renowned conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Helmuth Rilling, Tan Dun, and E. Oronzo Estrada, and has performed worldwide as both a choral and solo artist across Europe, Asia, and South America.

She completed her Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln under Prof. Mechthild Georg, graduating with distinction in both opera and concert performance, including Lied and oratorio.

During this time, she appeared in numerous opera productions, including The Fairy Queen (Oper Wuppertal), Hänsel und Gretel (Witch), Dido and Aeneas (Sorceress), and The Cunning Little Vixen at Theater Aachen.

Başak Ceber is distinguished by an exceptionally versatile and fluid voice, allowing her to move effortlessly between different musical genres. In addition to her classical operatic repertoire, she is active in musical theatre, ethnic vocal traditions, as well as film music and symphonic rock projects with orchestra. Her artistic openness has led to numerous invitations to cross-genre productions and concert formats.

As an artist, she strongly believes that the future of opera lies in the integration of diverse vocal traditions and considers versatility and openness toward different vocal techniques essential to a contemporary operatic practice.

Alongside her stage career, she is also active as a vocal coach, teaching voice training and singing across various musical disciplines. She regularly works with semi-professional and ambitious amateur choirs in Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bremen, and Lower Saxony, focusing on vocal training and development.

She is currently expanding her repertoire with major mezzo-soprano roles such as Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Venus in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, and Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlo.

Since 2023, she has been a full-time ensemble member of the chorus at the Staatsoper Hannover (mezzo-soprano), where she regularly performs on stage, appears in solo roles, and continues to develop her own concert projects.
